This new thread is being created to complement Jake3d's thread, why does one want to migrate to Canada.

It is a known fact of life (with exceptions ofcourse), that everyone wants his sorrows, problems, hardships etc. to be shared, but no one wants to share happiness and prosperity. So if Canada is so good in almost each respect, why does it want to share its wealth, beautiful and unpolluted weather, solid infrastructure, non-corruption etc.etc. with immigrants from underdeveloped or developing nations?

As an intending immigrant, or as a new immigrant, what do you think are the reasons that Canada wants to share their prosperity with outsiders and why to they heavily market themselves internationally?

And members of this site - let's stick to some serious thought. It is easy for anyone to vent out frustrations, but the same can be done in a constructive way, putting yourself in the shoes of Canadian govt and thinking why they do what they do.

And yes, while the topic is for intending immigrants to think out of the box (as one would think if someone unknown to you invited you for dinner at his place and promised to pay you Rs 10,000 for having dinner at his place!!!), existing immigrants are invited to share their opinions too.

I read somewhere that majority of the non-immigrant population in Canada is in the 40+ age group due to smaller families and that Canada needs more young, energetic people to help its economy. The selection procedure is pretty sound, so I guess they are more interested in quality rather than quantity.

Hi,

According to me why canada wants immigrants is-

1) As a student of economics I believe in the simple rule of more natural resources & less human resource. So in order to achieve full utilization of their resources they needs more human beings.

2) More land less people & not distributed equally.

Jyothi,

May I request you to elaborate on these two points :-

1. what shall be the benefit to Canada. And, related to that, why (the reasons) do they feel that intending immigrants will be willing to help Canada in improving Canadian economy. What I mean is when you want to sell something, you should be also aware why the buyer will agree to buy what you are selling, ain't it?

2. How do you think they will distribute population equally - Most immigrants come to only the major cities, so these cities are getting crowded very heavily.

The birth rate of Canadians is abyssmally low. Canada thus needs immigrants to remain a viable country. The Canadian govt has to attract people to further build Canada. I dont think Canada wants to share anything with people of developing countries per say. Right now people from developing countries are more likely to want to come to Canada than those from developed countries. Man has always wanted to move to lusher pastures since the start of history.
I also agree with what kjyoti says. Its true that the first gen immigrants are more likely to flock to the cities. It may not bee true for future generations. Also more of the land will have to be exploited to support increase in population.
Canada hopes to attract the more sucessfull people from the developing countries in the hope that they repeat the success here. Just like a bussiness would try to employ only the most promising employees. To do anything else would not make any economic sense to Canada.
Canada hopes that these new immigrants will one day feel proud to call Canada their home inspite of retaining their own identities.

See I'm referring to the simple economics rule of Demand & Supply. e.g.- For goods production, firm wants labor & in return they give salary. Now from this salary, labor demand for goods which gives money to supplier for their further production & this goes like that. In my 1st point becoz Canada have more natural resources but less manpower they don’t fully utilize their resources ex- if supplier have more goods for supply but less demand becoz of less income less demand & this goes like this. 1 good example if one firm have more raw material but less labor then wht happens: wastage!!! That results in wastage of resources.

As for the 2nd point, take an example of lands in 2 different areas. One is in posh area so more demand, this raises the price of land. Whereas 2nd is not in posh area in result less demand less price. Now how this is related to my point is that after a period of time, people start to think abt that area which is less posh but chances to develop later so they start settling in that area. Now when the cost of living starts increasing in this areas, people start to think abt to move to other areas where Cost of living is less & chances to develop later.

Anyways look forward to hearing your views on the same as you're more experienced:)
