Hi,
I am 44 years old, B.Com graduate working for an Indian company for past 21 years as Manager in Finance Dept. Developed many accounting packages using PROGRESS 4GL RDBMS for past 15 years. Worked in africa for 10 years in the same company's branch. At present I am a Functional Lead of Oracle 11i with 1+ years implementation experience in AP, AR,FA,PO,INV & I-Procurement modules with same company.
I have receive my PR to Canada.
I have very decent life and salary in India.
I have 10 years old daughter and 7 years old son.
After seeing this site, I am very scared to come to Canada.
What is the job situation for my profile in Canada?
I request seniors to assess my situation and give your opinion on whether come to Canada or not?
Your advice will be highly appreciated.
Narayan,
Before any of us tell you whether you should come here, would you tell us why YOU want to come here despite a great life in India?
Maybe that will make it easier for others to advise.

Are you there?
my suggestion is that you should not come at all becuz you will not get any job except labour job in factory here. your age is also an disadvantage. even if you still want to come ..i shall strongly say DON'T LEAVE YOUR JOB IN INDIA..COME ALONE FIRST DON'T BRING YOUR FAMILY..SEE THE SITUATION HERE YOURSELF AND DECIDE. DON'T SELL ANYTHING IN INDIA..
I am warning you the you will be in a trap..or at least go through the articles of various persons on this site
I myself came on leave 6 months back..i am working as bank manager in india and masters in computers but no job..i am going back to india forever this weekend to join my job
I don't think you should leave your plan of landing in Canada, just because few people did not got any job in Canada.
My advise is:
1) float your CV on various sites, write them that you have got PR and planing to land in another few months in your covering letter and see the response.
2) do you have any Oracle certification, if no get ASAP.
Oracle 11i has good potential in Canada. Take leave from your company and land. Canada IT market is much better than the previous year, as per my study and expected good in coming months as US economy is boosting up.
Cheers,
Raj

A person is never more on trial than in a moment of excessive good fortune.
I am a technical consultant working with Oracle Apps. I can tell you Canada's not the best place since you have only 1 year experience. They pay pitiful salaries for apps programmers with 4 yrs experience. I have seen such ads for 50-60k/year, which stinks. I would suggest get more experience staying there or switch to a consulting firm like wipro, patni, cognizant (they may be able to place you in Canada). Functional consultants are in high demand in the US. And salaries are much better there. But maintaining an H1B is a real pain. Getting a US GC takes 5-6 years depending on your location in the US.
If you were born in Africa, you can take advantage of the diversity visa lottery at travel.state.gov to try to get a US GC.
These are my humble opinions and maybe you have other reasons for coming here.
