Hi Anwer, It is interesting question. the best i can think of for giving info on construction is this site
http://www.cca-acc.com/home.html
For building individual homes, i would explore the local market myself to see if there are any reliable contractors available to do it . There are small time builders in the market but even they prefer to build a development and not a single home. but you might be able to get some to do it for you , there is a huge oriental population in BC and anything is possible.
Before you get a contractor to build your house, you will first have to get the design approved by the local building dept in your town and get a certified structural, electrical and mechanical engineer to stamp the drawings prior to approval of the town . The local contractors would be able to get this done for you for additional $$.
Before you award the work , please make sure you sign up a contract form agreeing on the scope and $$ amounts ,this form is available with the local contractors association. Otherwise you will have too much exposure and sky will be the limit for costs if the contractors is not honest.
Now, having said all this... i am wondering why you are going for the headache of building a house yourself. you can very well approach a developer and buy a new home in a new develpment , they can even do match your custom designs if you buy in their development area. And once you occupy , they usually provide about 10 yr warranty( it varies from place to place).
Both prtions are good , depending on your choice and priorities.
If i had to make your choice, i'd get the house to live in from a developer ....and just for fun degign and build a cottage by first option .
whatever you do ...good luck and hope you enjoy your new home.
