Hello to all CD members,
I am going to land in Canada next month or so (not decided on the date) from US. I passed my CPA exam here. Will I be able to get any starting accounting job initially or do I have to get any qualifications in Canada too. I am from Missouri and I saw in the CA website of canada that it exempts missouri CPA from CA reciprocity exam... what does that mean? Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
JG
Hi dilhaihindustani,
Try the link below this might be helpful and is self explanatory, if not please let me know
http://www.icao.on.ca//index.cfm/ci_id/77.htm
You can also use this link which takes you to 'Foreign Trained Accountants' section of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) http://www.icao.on.ca//index.cfm/ci_id/54.htm
Using this and the other link which ranapratab has provided, you need to research if the particular state from which you did your CPA qualifies for reciprocity with ICAO. There is enough information on the links we gave to answer your question on 'reciprocity'. If you qualify for reciprocity then I would advice you to call up the Institute directly and find out what paper work is required, whether there are any recent rule changes, etc.
Regards
Daks
Thanks for your advice, I had gone to the ICAO website and the thing which makes me confused is "Missouri is the only one state which grants the reciprocity without requiring that an examination be written" - what does that mean? Can anybody eloborate on this I mean i understand that this state comes under reciprocity but when i called up the ICAO they said " I don't think Missouri comes under that" that is what the person said to me.
Another thing is - is there any restriction for me not to search for an accounting job initially while i sort out this CA matter. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
JG
