Today, the first song radio played was "Jyot Se Jyot Jagaate Chalo" from "Sant Gnaneshwar". I was overjoyed listening to the starting music, but my joy was short lived, as suddenly it was Anuradha Paudwal who was singing the song. I really felt like banging my head on the wall.

And it happens all the time. I do not know whether the radio announcer is aware of the fact, that they are not playing the real version. I just change the station.

I wonder, what pleasure people derive in listening songs originally sung by Lata or Kishore in the voices of Anuradha or Kumar Sanu / Abhijeet. Why to listen to fakes? Why not the original? There is no way, these singers are able to match the histrionics of the immortals.

It was a different things in 80s when HMV did not release compilations and people had to turn to T-Series version to get only the songs they wanted. But now, the scenario is totally different.

I still cannot forget the moment I listened to the song from "Kati Patang " - "Na Koi Umang Hai" in a male voice.

I will partially agree with you on this...Generally I cant stand cover versions of songs....In fact I despise them. But, had it not been for cover versions, Sonu Nigam, Babul Supriyo, Abhijeet and others would not have been noticed. Remember, we did not have TVS SA RE GA MA in those days.

I do not own cover versions of any singers..except for one notable exception...

The Shraddhanjali series by Lata Mangeshkar herself. They are a class by themselves. It had a reverse effect..I actually started listening to Geeta Dutt after her rendition of "Koi door se awaaz de chale aao" ( its another thing that the DVD is screwed up now and I should replace it..Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam)

Of 'cos it was pretty different to listen to
