Mr India:

Whatever you do, just make sure it is absolutely clear that the money was and is yours. Upon entry into Canada, an Immigration officer has the power to refuse you landing if he/she determines that you don't have sufficient funds. Borrowed funds can amount to insufficient funds. To avoid head-ache, just follow my advice as above.

If the draft is being sent by your relatives, you should have the valid reasons as to why he/she is making payment to you. You should have the justified reasons that money belongs is yours and not borrowed as posted earlier

Another practical suggestion from a non-legal guy:

Toronto has two Indian banks now : SBI and ICICI and other foriegn banks like HSBC, Amex and Citibank which has branches both in India as well as Canada.

One can open an account in Toronto branches by sitting in India and transfer the money to that account. Then at the time of landing, one can carry his statement of the local branch and show it to immigration.

I did that (with HSBC branch) and it was acceptable!

Dear Masood Ji:

Are u agree with Chandresh as above ?
Is it possible to open an account in Toronto right from here in India ?
If I open account in Toronto Canada from here in India as explained by Chandresh and if I plan to settle in other city/Province then ?

Which are the better banks in Canada in terms of service and with more incentives - SBI, ICICI, HSBC, Citibank etc. ?

Thanks to all.

my personal preference is HSBC but Candresh may have some personal knowledge of dealing with any other banking institution.

Moving around in Canada is not a problem as far as bank accounts are concerned.
