Thanks Puttoo. I will be sending my expired I-94. I was not aware of this rule earlier.
Thanks guys for posting so much info on I-94. I have I-94 attached on my passport, it is expired 3 months ago. I was thinking when i will go to US next time they will renew it, but after reading the thread i am going Monday to CBSA , 1 Front Street. I wonder if it will have any effect in future when i enter US.
Take Care and thanks for useful information
I talked with many many people and to my surprise, they all had and still have expired I-94. They never had a problem. To the extreme case, one guy had expired I-94 for more than a year, there was absolutely no question asked to him when he went next time. Another few cases, their VISA was expired and went to Consulate for visa interview with long time expired I-94, they simply took it while Interview !
It seems like, technically it's a big issue and we are supposed to return it but in reality, it's very much common to surrender expired I-94 at Port Of Entry while you enter next time. So far, in this thread and in my circle, I have not seen any single case who had problem at border regarding this. They may be taking it seriously at Maxican border.

Is this mentioned officially on any US gov site? The option of returning the I-94 on 1 Front Street? Didn't see it on the links you've provided.
Also, do you have to go in person or can you mail the I-94?

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...
To sum it up
I-94 is a very important document to track a persons status in US
Do surrender it when exiting US.
However if you plan to reenter again during its validity , you can retain it but it MUST be returned before the validity expires
Prevent any problem from happening than worrying later

P.S. Always refer to latest information on US gov sites and get information from multiple sources and co-relate.
