My friend came here as an immigrant two years back. He is a PhD and working at a gas station. Now he got a job offer from a university of Malaysia as an Associate Professor. He is planning to go there alone leaving behind his family. He is going for a three year contract. He can do that without troubling his PR status as he stayed here for two years. After one year his wife and daughter will apply for citizenship and it might take another year to complete all the formalies. After having Canadian passport his wife and daughter will join him at Malaysia. Still his PR status is valid and as he is living with his Canadian citizen spouce he can maintain his PR status as long as he want to be out side Canada.

Good Plan but my question is can he do that? Like, his wife may be asked about her husband and why he is not applying. And again is it true living with a Canadian wife allow you to maintain your PR status as long as you want out of Canada?

Your friend is smart.
What he is trying to do is what many people do.
I wish your friend all the very best.
Malaysia is a very good place. People are friendly, Country is better than Canada and things are very cheap. It is similar to India in the sense that you donot have to work hard in your job.

Thank you for your reply. I thought what he is doing is totally a madness. Still my question is
- can his wife apply alone for citizenship? Will not she will be asked about her husband?
- ls it true that living with a Canadian spouce will allow him to hold his PR status outside Canada?
- Where he will renew his PR card?
- What about taxes?
