I am wondering why do we desis always insists on Toyotas and Hondas?

I agree that they are good car manufacturers, but their american competitors are not bad eigher.

We are so bias that people are asking $7000 for 1990 Toyota Camry?

Is it worth? There are so many American Good cars - like Chevrolate Impala, Lumina etc.

Anyone want to share ideas?

Dear Swamiji,

Namaskar.

I agree with you that normally desis always insists on Japanees make car.

Desis think that Japanees car are most reliable cars.

Some extent I agree, but for older models only.
Japanees new models are not that reliable as desis think.

I have heard some cases for engine and transmition problems for Japanees cars after 1994 models too.

There are many new american car models which runs good compared to Japanees car (compared by cost and maintenance) For example Cheverolet Impala and Malibu

If you want to buy a Toyata Camry of 1992(Milage app. 140k-150k) it will cost app. 9000-10000 $. For the same amount range you could by American car like cheverolet Lumina (Milage app 100k-120k).

As per my knowledge if you will try you could get better american car in better condition for less money than Japanees car.

I agree Pravin.

The car should be choosen based on attributes not by the feeling that Japanes cars are always good. It might be good at some point of time, when Japanes were ready to buy America.

Very few knows that all the cars are built in Canada and US. Very few real imports are from Japan. So when everything is manufactured in the US, how can Japanes car different than American Cars?

I myself have Toyota and I can not say I am fully satisfied customer.

I am new to this Country and ready to buy second hand car. The same logic was given by lot of people that Hondas and Toyotas are better than their American counterpart. I can't undetstand why? Then I visited one of the \"Candian\" Mechanic, he also told me \"Honda\" is the BEST !

Right now, I am searching old car. But Hondas and Toyotas are too high priced. For the same price one can get relatively new American car.

What do you say? Should I go for American car? Like Dodge Neon etc?

Vivek,

I read somewhere that how old cars are priced, as per their book (or depreicated value). All the japanees car were high priced (about 25 percent). Some American cars were equal (crysler etc.) and most of American cars were under prices by more than 15 percent.

So this is the situation. For example you are buying an old car - which is worth $3000.

The Japanees Cars will cost you - 3750 (may be more)
The Ford one will cost you: 2250 (may be less)

So the difference is almost 1500 $, for the same milage and same make.

Japaneese cars are said to be robust and doesn't require much repair, but even in that case this 1500 $ is more than enough for not going for japaneese car.

On the contary all american cars are coming with more features and excellent interior design.

I will definately go for American Car.

One more drawback of Japaneese car - Costly spare parts.

The theft ratio of japaneese car is also high and so the insurance is also high.

Hi,
The other reason desis going for Japanese car could be, the back-home main factor "mileage" or as we used to call it "average" which means the consumption of gas per km. Since Japanese cars give better mileage, desis may have some preference.
But as many agree, American cars are better for North America.
