A day after Tim Cook unvieled the new and improved iPhone 4S, Apple Inc. co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs, 56, lost his year-long battle with cancer.

May his soul rest in peace.
But this is good news for Ontario. RIM shares are going to go through the roof and revive the economy of Waterloo, ON.
So there is a silver lining to each cloud.
Peace

I don't think people are going to dump iphones and buy Blackberrys just because Steve Jobs is dead. If Apple can continue to be as innovative as they have been then it is going to remain tough for RIM.

RIP Steve, what a way to go..
It is a shame...Apple did not have to wait for Bill Gates to die.....
Go buy RIM shares but not because a legend is dead.
It is not silverline but dark cloud that RIM may never get a chance to really be innovative and better company than apple when apple is at its peak.

I believe share price increases can only make individual share holder richer - not the economy. Can you explain how the 2 are related?

RIIP (Rest In i-Peace) JOBS.

While there was a brief uptick in RIM stock immediately following the iPhone 4s annoucement, Steve Jobs death did not affect RIM stock.
The slight uptick in RIM in last 2 days has more to do with takeover rumors from Vodaphone, and not because somehow all of a sudden RIM has become a market leader overnight.

Also, Steve's demise has been priced into the stock for a long time now.
APPL stock barely lose 3% as a result of this news.
And as I write this, APPL is down around 0.20% from open, and actually up since yesterday's close.
In other words, it's a non event.

May Allah give him a place in heaven and may his soul rest in peace.

Inshallah ! his company will grow leaps and bounds after his death.
