Please note that income in Kuwait is not taxed. I am filing my tax returns in Canada regularly, sorry I don't have to disclose any figures, also note that I am not availing any benefit from Canada or Canadian Government !@!

not really just wanted to say you did the right thing. Just that if you file a return and you have to since you have PR, then the entire income has to be reported in Canada. There may not be a tax treaty.

You could have got non-resident status for tax purposes and still maintaining your PR.

Dear kuwaituser,

Well, my husband may probably resign & land in Canada first. We have home loans to pay here so its a very bad idea for both of us to leave jobs at the same time. Only if my husband can earn a salary good enough to send back $1000 every month back to India it would be good.
Keeping my fingers crossed, will keep you all posted our final plan for Canada.

Rather when your husband gets a good job, look not backwards , you should leave for Canada immediately and ideally sell off your home (leaving a loan liability will pinch your lifestyle in Canada every month ), the proceeds from home will easily earn good life and brand new home in Canada. Ask your husband to leave power of attorney for you before leaving.
I would'nt have suggested this if your home was completely paid off in India. Leaving a loan in India is not a good idea. So much for the safe playing ! :-)

Lalitha,
Looks like your expectations are too low.
Canada is not Ethiopia or Somalia.
When I came in 2002, I refused to do factory jobs for more than 2 or 3 days at the max. I lost my entire saving for CAD 10,000 in 6 months.
One m.sc. agri guy came along with me. He joined in a gas station (which sells only gas and cigerettes his work was less).he was paid Rs 8 . hr cash. He worked 8-10 hours a day , 7 days a week.So his salary was around 30*8*8 = $ 1920 a month. Rent $ 300 a month (sharing), Food $ 300 a month. No other expenses. He used to swipe his PC master card at his gas station for $ 1200 every month and send it to his home in B'lore in advance. He was able to accumulate good PC points for buying groceries for free. In 2003 or 2004 he was able to buy a plot of land in BTM layout which has appricated by 30 times his 2004 buying price. He did not bring his family to Canada for the next 3 years.

Why I am telling you the story is that your husband can surely and easily get a $ 60,000 IT job in 2 or 3 months of him coming to Canada. So if he lives frugelly, he can easily send $ 3000 a month to India for sure.

Mechanical engineers in India get around Rs.1 lakh - Rs. 1.5 lakh a month minimum in India- working in a MNC and may be with 7 years exp. ($ 2000 - 3000).IT people also get paid well in India. Donot know how $ 1000 a month of remittance will make you happy in India.

Peace

Your job might be dependent on the same list of people you've listed.

Possibly but since a return was filed, the entire worldwide income has to be reported and Canadian taxes paid on it. It's as if one is working in Canada.
