Hello CD's,
April 1st, 2014, marks my third anniversary outside Canada and in India. I would like to share my report card with Cd's.
Kindly note that this is not a canada-India bashing thread. However, I will express my views against/for any country and this depends just on my situation. Other people's situation will be different.
For me, my relocation has been beneficial. In Nov. 2010, when I was forced to return to India, I did not have any job offers in India. However I had a job offer of a brand new job in Canada, which I could not take.
However, by Nov. end, I had a job in Saudi. But due to my Canadian passport, the process was taking an excess of 3 months. I had an Indian job offer in March 2011, which I took and in a week I was in India.

At that time, India was booming. My salary in India was much more that what I was earning in Canada. I was flying every month for work or to attend seminars. I was getting a lot of enquiries on my profile for job, but I decided to stay put as I was living in a tier 2 city and cost of living was very low. Even public transport buses was empty during rush hours. After 1 year, a lot of corruption was discovered in my dept. and I also acted as a whistle blower. As a result, some were fired, some were forced to quit. But all of them found better jobs due to the economy that was booming (mid 2012).

Since I am in tier 2 city, I canot comment on what is happening in the metro's but for my field, the job oppertunities have dwindled. It is very hard to find jobs now. People say that only if Modi ji comes to power, things will improve. Due to family problems, I am thinking of going to the Gulf, but there is not much oppertunity there too. People in Gulf are looking for people with 3-5 years experience and not people with 20 years experience.

Coming to the realities between India and Canada (as far as I am concerned):

Pro India :
1. Saving potential is definitely more. Cost of living is less when compared to your salary.
2. Rent is less. Cost of food stuff is less and you get more varities.
3. Climate. 365 days of sunshine. I read that GTA has its worst winter in history this year,
4. Housing is still going strong.
5. healthcare is amazing. Cheap and eifficient
6. People are open and easy to make friends. No need to be afraid, if they will call the police to report you, if you try to approach them.
7. Salary increments are more like 10% a year, though your actual inflation is much much less. I pay Rs 16 per kg or Tomato and Rs 20 per Kg of onion. There were/are price fluctuations but it is there only for a couple of week. Avoid those vegetables at those times.
8. Holiday expenses- very less. Spent 2 days in cochin last week. Spent just Rs 20K on lodging, food, travel. From where I live to Singapore is Rs 8000 one way and to Sharjah is another Rs 8000 one way.
9. Work - Really, no one sees your work. If you work hard, load will be piled on you. However, if you pretend that you work and get a good name, no one cares about what you do. I combine personal works with my site visits. However I work M-S.
10. Your tax is almost similar to Canadian standards, but you get a lots of ways to reduce tax like petrol allowance,uniform allowance, book allowance, medical premiums etc..


Pro Canada:
1. Less curriculam in schools
2. M-F work week (if you have a good job)

Good job, TK. Your situation was not good here in Canada, and you had guts to change it. Even if it meant going back to India. That's what I like. If something is not working out, try to change it instead of cribbing about it. I see no reason for people to struggle here in Canada and then complain. Still, they stay back here due to the 'so-called' and 'faux' kids future. One should be ready to go back. These days no one cares, and the age old prestige factor is vanishing by each day as people back home don't have time in their hands. Besides, who cares for others.

I think you were contemplating the second immigration to Australia. How's it working out for you? Have you tried? May be now when your situation is better, you can try finding a job in Aus first and then plan your move accrodingly.

Moreover, you heard it right - wait for Modi to be a PM. There will be more job openings then with even better economy in the offing.

Live where you are happy and enjoy the life. That is the key.

The fact that you dared , matters most and is appreciable. Not many, who feel stuck here, do what you could do. Results always will be either way.
May be try going self employed, who knows ?

TK Bhai: Wish you a happy and fruitful completion of 3rd anniversary of being out of Canada. Glad to note that you had good experiences in India. It is much appreciated that you chose to keep in touch with Canadian desi in-spite of your absence. your inputs have helped many a member test the pulse of India.

My friendly advise is, don't uproot yourself and family all over again by trying to establish yourself in another country. You are in a good place, India. your children have a chance to learn about their roots and their culture. Nomadic existence is very tiring.

Thanks guys for your well wishes.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances of which I had no part of, I am facing tremendous family problems.
Therefore I am thinking of going to the Gulf and living peacefully but there are no job vacancies in the Gulf at this point of time.
However, I am of the opinion that if one comes to the Metro's (B'lore, Mumbai, Delhi) and if one had found a good job (in 2012), then life here will almost be equal to western life (sans pollution).
These days many ladies are becoming professors in private colleges and brining 60K of month salary to the table. Since it is a college, they have M-F work days, flex work hours, vacation etc.. Due to the abundance of private colleges that is being founded, there is always lot of openings.
