I had read about an individual doing an all india tour and after that I also want to do that.
Travel to major destinations will be by train and from there by bus.
I propose to do this for 2 months with a budget of 60,000 INR. I will do this and then come to Canada (as per my plan B) and apply for welfare and soup kitchens,

Iterinary.

Chennai - Bengaluru - Hyderabad - Cuttack- Nagpur - Agra - IIT-Kharagpur - Kolkatta - Assam- Arunachal Predesh - Sikkim - Darjeeling - Delhi- Simla- Chandigargh - Leh -Jammu- Srinagar - Mount Abu - Jaipur- Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - Ahmedabad - Mumbai - Goa - Waynad - Cochin - Trivandrum (Padmanabhapuram) - Kanniyakumari.

Hope to catch the train in 2nd class. I will have a smart phone (with 3 G access). Money will be kept in 4 places. Will travel with just a small backpack. Mostly it will have many innerwears. Most inner wears will be thrown (instead of being washed) and new ones bought. Will be travelling like a vagabond.

Will be having only ATM card, Aadhar card for ID. Sleep in night train. If the city warrents stay, then at a cheap hotel. I am not picky about food. Will visit monuments mostly as I am an Architect. will have a digital camera and I will update on FB and also blog on CD.

The reason why I am saying this is , has any CD undertaken this kind of tour in Canada / US. I know many IT desi's who have under taken this trip by car but I am going to attempt it by train.

Looking forward to your ideas. (Esp. Adam's after he wakes up)

Years back, one of my boss of Ukranian origin went down to attend a wedding in India. Very sportive person he is, he bought some kind of "Visit India" tour on Jet airways and went around India.
Search Jetairways website, you might find more details. It will save you from wearing out completely choosing the train path.

Either it would be quite an enviable experience, the farthest place I've traveled from home town in India is within 400 Kilo meters.

Fantastic idea TK, try the Indrail pass. Costs around $ 185 for unlimited travel on Indian rail network for 60 days.
Share your experience on CD ..

Why? How is it better than working for one hour and earning Rs. 2000 per day?

Hi Raj,
Sorry for the detour in the thread.
I have been given a death threat by one of my relatives and hence have return to Canada as my plan B. There also other private reason's why I may have to return to Canada.

Just to tell you on the job front, for Architects's, getting a professor job is the easiest.
You just walk in to any private college and you will be hired the next day. Salary is Rs 50,000 in hand. Notes are being circulated in the markets. So all you have to do it, read from the notes and give it to the students for xeroxing. In the meantime, you can do private works / stock trading etc..

Getting a job is also not that hard but once you are above 40, oppertunities become less. L&T is hiring for 75K in hand per month but they will transfer you to Mumbai where they have current projects.
