"I would say they should look at the attitude of candaian employers, who only wants canada experience."

Now u r changing the tune. Our discussion was abt looking for jobs from outside Canada. Suppose there is a new opening in a firm in Toronto that has to filled immediately. What would they do? Wait for someone from ME or India or USA? Or talk to someone who is already in Toronto/surrounding cities who is looking for a job?

There is nothing wrong in applying from outside the country (at least the potential employer may have a peek at it). But complaining abt not getting response is not the right thing to do.

Coming back to the topic, in trying to answer the question posed earlier (has anybody got a job applying from outside of Canada?), I'm sure there must be people who have, in Canadian Desi.

From my experiences, I have been trying from US for the past few months since I didn't want to give up my current job in US immediately. I applied for over 50 positions, but was called for telephonic interviews only a couple of times. In one, I probably didn't get it because I didn't have experience in portals, and in another J2EE position, I was later told that they needed someone with experience in fixed income, which I didn't have.

It is not that they completely ignore applications from outside Canada, although in most cases, like it was mentioned in another forum, US (and other non-Canadian) addresses tend to put employers/recruiters off.

If your skills are really in demand, then it is possible to land a job before coming to Canada.

The best alternative would be to have as many contacts/interviews lined up before you land - which is what I'm trying to do now.

Hi Jughead,
I think we are in the same boat. I recently received interview waiver and should be getting PR visa probably within next 4 to 6 months.
I think its nothing wrong to try and search a job in canada while already working in the US. Atleast it will create an email list of potential employers as well as our resume will appear on their database.

At the same time, I need feedback on the following issue.
If you have 3 years left on your H1b, and are good in getting good paying jobs in US, do you think its okay to delay your PR in canada for 2 to 3 years and in the meanwhile, take advantage of the american job market?
thanks
nanku

On this forum, some have posted that they got job offers in Canada while being in other countries. Most of them are IT professionals, I believe.

Is it easier to apply for jobs before coming to Canada and then once in canada to apply for a PR?

I was thinking of securing a job before coming to Canada and then once in the country to apply for a PR. Would appreciat feedback from anyone pertaining to this matter.

Thank you.

Jovial kalpana

Hi kalpana,

As far as my experinece goes....
I had similar plans like you before immigrating to Canada. I applied thru monster, workopolis and many other sites but didn't get any replies or interests. I immigrated anyways, found a professional job, ( not in my field ) after one year of struggle. I had to upgrade my qualifications to my new job profile.
What I think is it is very difficult though not impossible to find a job before landing here. But that didn't stop me from trying to look for a job before immigrating.

If you try there is a chance..
If you don't then failure is guaranteed.
Trying doesn't cost.

All the best!

Ashar

I did manage to get a job (software engineer) in Toronto while in US. I went through a recruiter. I will be coming to Toronto in couple of days.
