Novi - 12 oaks mall
Novi - along I-275 and 8 mile road (Best Buy, babies R Us and similar stores)
Madison Heights - Oakland Mall (also along 14 mile and John R - you have few electronic stores)
Auburn Hills - Great Lakes Crossing (along I-75 in that area, lots of other shopping)
Troy - Somerset mall (quite expensive but a classy mall....might be worth for a window shopping tour)

For cheap veggies and fruits, visit Joe Randazzo's (however, watch out for customs while coming back). There is one off I-94, telegraph road exit at the junction of Telegraph and Joy Roads.

Just after the bridge into the US, there is Mexicantown (due to construction, it's easy to become lost in the dumpiest area). For mexican groceries, there is a mexican store on the east side of I-75 and there are 3 or 4 good mexican restaurants on the west side of I-75 (both sides look quite dumpy, but safe).

You can also visit the shopping area inside Rennaissance Center in downtown. Parking is around $10 to $15. Downtown on Jefferson Street is walkable (and safe) and you can visit Greektown as well.

The closest from the bridge or tunnel would be the Oakland mall off I-75 (north), 14 mile road east exit. It's about 20 to 30 minutes after crossing the border. For electronics, you can visit Best Buy, micro-center and Comp USA (I hope they all exist still) near the mall in or around John R road and 14 mile road.

I personally prefer the 12 Oaks mall and the Novi area. But Novi would be about 45 to 60 min after you cross the border.
