I had recently been to the US for a short holiday. I was issued a 10 year multiple visa. My uncle dropped me by car at Windsor from where I took the train to Toronto.I used the Detroit-windsor Ambassdor Bridge for the crossing. The Canadian official just checked our passports and PR cards, did not take the I-94A form. What am I to do now? I guess I have to surrender it to either to the US consulate in Toronto or mail it to the Dept of Homeland Security. The only proof I have of re-enrty into Canada is my VIA rail ticket. Anyone had a similar experience?

if you are working in d/town Toronto, you can go to 1 Front st and just hand it over to Canada Customs

Yes . A lot of people have this experience. Leaving US via plane to India is different because the airlines people specifically ask for I-94 before boarding the plane. However coming to Canada is different as the Customs officials do not seek anything but instead expect us to declare . ( For ex. questions like do you have anything to declare . Any gifts to declare etc ) We are used to being asked / get directions and easily forget that the surrendering of I-94 across Canadaian border is voluntary and not mandatory. ( for ex. a I-94 holder may need to travel again within the validity period so they choose not to surrender)
So if you do not intend to go back within the validity period, do surrender. If not either travel back to say Niagara falls and surrender or surrender to Canada Customs . See thier website for locations or call...

What goldeneye and reachash say (handing over I-94 to Canada customs) seems to be the coreect procedure.

However, to be on the safer side, how about parking the car a few yards away from the US Port of Entry office on the Canadian side and then walking up to the US Port of Entry office and handing it over to the US Dept. of Homeland Security the I-94?

Any comments are appreciated

Thanks for your replies. I handed over the I-94 to the US Consulate in Toronto. They, in turn, will forward it to the US Dept of Homeland Security. Actually, this is what was suggested on the US consulate website.
