Falu, born Falguni Shah in Bombay has been singing classically for years, upon her move to Boston she began to incorporate her traditional Indian roots music into contemporary American music. Falu claims “The real challenge is to push towards innovation while staying true to 5,000 year old traditional roots.”
Falu and her band Karyshma have toured the United States spreading their music and as of late have taken New York City by storm. She performed at a VIP dinner prior to the Healing the Divide benefit concert featuring His Holiness the Dali Lama at Lincoln Center in 2002. The event, hosted by Richard Gere & Philip Glass, drew several celebrity onlookers who were blown away by her amazing talent. More recently, Falu was invited to perform with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project, and she is currently serving as one of Carnegie Hall’s Music Ambassadors to New York City.
