This is the result of subversion of judiciary in Indira's emergency time. The basic rights were taken out of fundamental rights and now in name of larger good of public, Parliament can and does implement laws which violate equality and justice before law. I always have maintained that India is not a democracy. Democracy is just not simply rule by majority. It encompasses independent judiciary, guarantee of fundamental rights (like charter of rights in Canada) which can be altered under a very different and special set of circumstances. It requires a large number of institutions aiding democratic process and checks and balances including free and independent media. It pre supposes mature and literate voters. If one analyzes, India has hardly any of these. India reminds me of Iraq where various sects (Sunni, Shia and Kurds) are fighting and killing each other for better share of revenue and political power. Only difference is that so called “upper caste” in India neither have guts nor means to wage a war for their rights. Like Iraqi people, Indian people derive more satisfaction in harming people of other caste rather than pondering whether policy is designed for benefit of nation. Every sensible person knows that “creamy layer” is the beneficiary of reservation and still caste loyalties and inter caste rivalries are so strong and deep rooted that these people keep voting for anti national elements. Can any one even imagine elected representatives asking for pardon to traitors like Madani and Afzal Guru in western countries?

In ten to fifteen years India will again be in ditch unless something dramatic event happens and Sonia , Arjun, Manmohan and others like them are thrown in garbage.
