Which one is better to use as a financial management software?

Microsoft Money or Quicken?
Quicken has a Canadian version with lot of local banks included.

Other than stores like Best Buy or Futureshop, which are good places to get good deals on buying either of those in Canada? Ebay has them but they are all shipped from U.S

Are there any other financial management softwares other than MS Money or Quicken?

I have used both over few years. My experience is the s/w management is more then the actual money managed. It has grown to have too many features over these years which really makes it confusing. unless you plan to use and account for all the transaction on your acount it gives little value. I switched to excel sheet later on for home budgeting.

If you know someone who bought a PC, it would most likely have included MS Works, which in turn includes MS Money. You could use that.

I use it for basic account balancing and keeping tabs of my spending and I'm happy with it. I probably am using only very few of the features though....

Alexm,

Thanks for pointing out about money management s/w free for a new PC under works. I certainly did not notice it. If it is free and used for only basic functions it may be o.k otherwise it is a overhead.

I had got it free too. However, like you...I soon switched to excel.

I like the ability to see my monthly spending by category - dining out, movies, clothing etc. The charts are helpful. It's a good indicator of where your money is going. That way I can see if my spending is exceeding my budget.

However, you have to be diligent and enter amounts spent correctly.

I work on the similar worksheet in excel. The work sheet includes the yearly summary which gives a good categorywise breakdown for the year.

I have to be honest though. My wife came up with the worksheet. I was trying to get her to adopt ms works. However on comparing her worksheet to ms works...I felt the excel chart was easier to manage and follow on a regular basis. May not work for everyone though. I personally do not have it in me to sit and prepare the initial worksheet...and would have gone with ms works if it were not for my wifes worksheet.
