Yelloknife,
My dad was a veterinary doctor and from that experience I can tell you all about animals.
So many times, when my dad used to treat cows, the cows tried to injure/ kill my dad. Once his watch was broken by the cows horns and the next time, a cow stomped at his feet, fracturing his ankle. I know from his experience and knoledge, that animals canot be compared to humans or human life.
So many Dogs have attacked him while he was treating them too. Animals (in most cases) donot understand the differences between enemy and friends.
Hope i have made myself a bit more clearer.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
This is indeed another bizarre discussion and I am happy to jump in the fray
It is a well known documented fact that financial management is not a strong point of most Canadians and Americans. Linking financial mgmt to lot of pets and expenses may not make too much sense as there are bigger issues involving savings rate and debt rate.
As said by other posters pets have a different concept here as opposed to India. I have two cats and I just spent $1000 on one of them since he (yes, "he" and not a "it" couldn't pee and had to be hospitalised. Of course I also heard a suggestion that he could have been put down and I could have saved $1000. There are different perspectives and I chose to spend the money on him. So, there you go, you just found another nutcase !!
In the matter of cows trying to kill the doc, cows or any other animals don't understand the higher purpose of the doctors. All they see is someone doing something they are not enjoying and hence react. That is why certain safeguards are established. Dogs get tethered when groomed, cats get anesthetized when inserting catheter up their who knows what, and so on.
Have you ever pushed a pill down a cat's throat? If you don't watch it, you will come out defeated and bloody. So I can either act ignorant and declare my own beloved cat is acting on revenge and trying to claw me to death or use some commonsense and wrap him inside a towel so his claws are not exposed while administering drugs.
It's the attitude towards animals that define the individuals' perceptions.

I agree with you on ALL accounts here but would like to discuss your point regarding Financial Management. As Indians ( I will not speak on behalf of all Indians but I think this is true) we feel that financial management is all about earn a lot and save a lot! While I agree with that, I also admire the Americans and Canadians sense of work hard and play HARDER! We have one life to live and I think that we as humans should find a middle ground between these two financial management philosophies so that we don't get to be old and gray and wonder.. what did i really do in my life... ofcourse this will lead to the discussion of what is considered tasteful spending and when is the line crossed over to wasteful spending.. no one can answer that because it's again relative... spending 1000 dollars to keep a CAT alive is wasteful for one and yet it may be the best 1000 dollars spent by another Sorry that i digressed but finally I did have a point
How is your kitty doing now Dimple?

TK,
A woman will love a man only for his looks or money The love that you get from a pet is true love A white pussycat with green eyes will still love you and doesn’t care if you are white or brown, handsome or ugly, rich or poor, intelligent or dumb.
