That's True. Many Regional Movies are enriched with very genuine and innovative theme and a tight script, which Bollywood more than often lacs.
If fact, hundreds of Bollywood "Blockbusters" are nothing but remake of such regional films.
I still remember seeing on TV " Nayakan" and Kalyan Ramanam" both in an Indian language I do not even recognise, but had great impact on me as a viewer.
If you get a DVD with subtitle, watch
01. Kakka Kakka (Surya - action - action - action, No Rajnikath style fighting).
02. Azhagi ( Love story).
Language couldn't be the barrier in both the above movies..

The cowards never started,
The weak died on the way,
Only the strong arrived.

Language should never be a barrier when it comes to regional films. Some of the good directors, apart from Mani Ratnam, like Satyan Anthikkad have come up with good movies. For example, Mallu language I dont udnerstand, but can figure out the gist of the story. Some of the films are too realistic.
