Hi

I have a bachelor degree in electrical engineering. Now working in a mobile company for 2yrs. I want to go to Canada with student visa. My gpa was very low 2.96 out of 4. Please help me in finding some universities or colleges where I can get admission to related M.Eng. or post-graduate diploma program. Please give me some experienced advice. I applied to few universities (u of ottawa, alberta, saskatewan, dalhousie, and windsor) and recently got rejection letters. Please help me..

It is nice that you know the reasons for refusal from these Universities that you applied for. That does not help you much. So, I would ask you to try and get into an institution that provides you with Papers as a TECHNICIAN. There are colleges that will bring you to a level of working knowledge into a TRADE. For that you will have to seek enrollment into an area of your choice and into a location that will suit you and the educational institution. After the completion of the course you will get a certificate with which you can seek employment. All of this will take an year or so. Come down to that location "Well in advance" and get to know the location, the field and the prospects of employment in the field of your choice, in that Province or in that Industry.

Now for the employment : After the completion of ONE year course, you can request for a WORK PERMIT for a similar period and they will provide you after the completion. You can apply for the same just at the time of graduation. That was the previous system. Currently they are asking the students to stay and work in Canada. I for one do not know the current situation and I will keep abreast of the developments and post replies to others here and please look for a response here from time to time.

The above mentioned avenue is for you to get into this country on a study visa. Hope you qualify for one. After the completion you can obtain suitable employment with an hourly rate of about $25, for a start. During that time you can enroll yourself in a course of study with the Professional Engineers, who does recognize your Certification and education and permit you to work towards enrolling with them. If that route is suitable to you, then, please follow the link provided here and take it up there in India and see how you can go about it.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck.

Freddie.

Upgrade your marks for admission.
Contact the student advising department of a university you wish toa ttend and ask them what you could do to improve your GPA.

Athabasca University is a online university from ALberta that will allow you to upgrade ur courses and its all paper or web based so you could do it anywhere in the world I believe.

Best way to get proper information is to communicate with admissions office of universities you are considering to attend. I did the same and believe me; I got very good guidance and information.

Hi guys:

Thanks for informative replies. I have few concerns here:

1. If I take an admission in a college for a technician or a one yr post-grad diploma, will they give usually give student visa? With by background being an electrical eng now working.

2. What are the universities you suggest to communicate about their usual lowest gpa enrollment? Last time I applied to those where a higher second class was the admission requirement, but I got rejected. So how can I know the actual requirement?

I am worried about admission chances with my low gpa:(

Thanks
