Thank you Bandhan for your detailed reply. My daughter is currently in grade 12 and will be appearing for her board exam only in March 2005 and hence we are looking at admission in Sept. 2005. She is doing CBSE sylabus. You had mentioned that she can repeat 12th grade again in Canada. What is the specific advantage of doing this, is it an option just incase she does not get admission in a good university in Canada after her 12th grade in Kuwait. If so, is there any school in Ontario where they have boarding also, where she can stay and study.
Thank you for your suggestion of subjects also.
Ottawa Nerd, thanks for your reply. I know I have been asking various question regarding university admission, medical schools etc. My daughter has not yet decided on the subjects she should take for the undergraduation. As Bandhan suggested she will take either Health science or life science. Which do you think has better scope for her to branch out just in case she does not get admission in a medical school.
As Bandhan suggested we are looking at the medical schools in US also.
Thank you once again.
Greetings!
I dont think there is any boarding school in Ontario where your daughter can stay if she prefers to do her grade 12 here.

She can repeat grade 12 in Canada if she doesnt secure good enough marks in CBSE. You have two options now. Either she does her grade 12 in kuwait by givin board exams or she does her grade 12 in high school in Canada now. If she doesnt get admission in a good university after doing her grade 12 in Kuwait, she can come here and join a high school and secure higher marks.
But if you think practically, she starts her Grade 12 here in Canada in September 2004 and she will be done by June 2005. Some of my friends have given Board exams and have been admitted to good universities in Canada. They all secured high marks 82-85% in the CBSE board exams. It will be very hard to get admission in a good university if the marks are
70-75%. If she graduates from a high school in Ontario, she needs minimum 82% to get into a good university. McMaster cuts off at 83% for life science and 86% for Health Science. University of Toronto cuts off at 82-85% for Life Science. University of Western Ontario cuts off at 82-85 % for Health Science or Bachelor of Medical and Biological Sciences. Queens is also in the same range as the above.
Now for York University which is ranked as an average university, cut off is 75 %. But Iam sure that a degree from a prestigious university matters in the future.
Now if you are wondering about post graduation programs after life science or health science, this website will help you. It will tell you about the professional programs after Health Science at The University of Western Ontario.

You have to choose the link of Graduate and Professional Programs and this should help you.
Its all your call now and your decision. Im sure you will make a good decision. If you have any questions or concerns you can email me at
Cheers!

hi all,
it was a informative discussion as far as admission in medical school is concern. but any one can throw light that what type of study options are available for IMG'S who r doing the general practise since last 10 years.
i already know that despite the shortage of doctors in toronot lot of doctors are doing odd jobs despite clearing MCCSE exam.
so, i think that it will be better to study and canadian qualification and after that have a better chance to get jobs.
any comment that i am thinking in the right direction.
thanks
hey
it was interesting piece of info from bandhan tht no of medical schools in canada is three US states ka medical schools combined together ..woa i dint knw tht one!
there is one point id like to make out here...health science is a program very specific to med ...but but but...if u dont clear MCAT u dont really have any other option to fall back on.i mean if u aim to be a doc u dont really wanna end up a nurse do u?!
n the authorities dont really care if u look health sciences or genetic engg..they want the gpa ...volunteer work...reference letters.all tht...
so why not go for a prog tht gives u a career backup??!!
takin health sciences is riskin ur future unless ur a 100% sure ull get in...which one one can really be.
i will start my undergrad at mcmaster sept 2005...n first yr is toh general..for science faculty ...its the second yr tht u specifically choose based onj ur performance in first yr...i have zeroed in on genetic engg /biotech...
n one more thing u can take music as ur subject now.n get into med school but what aftr tht ...u wud be competin with ppl who have taken bio as major n things....in the end u wud be the loser..so its better to go for a science/health science prog.
n hey kuwaituser why r u so worried ur daughter wont do well??shes gotta do well if she aims to do med...im sure she realises tht!
keep the info coming in....good work!!
