hello Cd's,
I was told by a IT contact that there are many QA/ Testing imparting institutes in USA (Run by Desi's) who will give free training and jobs in testing. He further told me that they advertise in Sulekha and that even he himself went once to NJ to be trained but then that he left it as he did not like testing (he is a sucessful software engr.) He told me that wages that you get will be around $ 45 an hour.
and so I searched Sulekha.com and found many advt's offering training for free. I also found 2 or 3 institutes offering free training and assured placment with free accomodation during training as follows ;
Influx Inc offer free training in QA in Chicago, weekday batches as well as weekend batches. Free H1B sponsorship and GC for qualified employees. Online Training / In-Class training is available. Free accommodation.
Area of Interest: QAType: Placement,TrainingName: Asha | Pina | Raj

Since CD has many IT people from USa who have come to this great country due to H1 B visa restriction, I humbly request some feedback from those people.
In the mean time , I have also written to these people, and will update Cd regarding the result.

Peace by TK

hello tamilkuravan...

i also contacted many of these desi companies for various courses like SAP, Business Analyst and QA...what i gathered from my research was that they dont offer free training but take some money upfront (around 1000$) which they promise to reimburse you after you get a job...and if you dont find job...then ur money goes in the ditch...i dont see anybody giving training without accepting money...if you find some let me know...

as far as these training institutes goes, it really depends on who is taking the training...is it some one sitting in India and logging onto the system using some kind of webcast or by someone physically present here..the job situation n USA is really bad with many having 10-15 yrs of exp sitting idle at home...what these desi training institute do is firstly train you and then make up your resume to show 5-6 yrs exp..which is ultimately to get caught...i am not sure how you feel but we can share our exp,,

take care

Like the earlier poster said, they do offer free training or sometimes charge nominal 1000$. But they expect you to join them on H1B. (Probably they will take care of that first). Also, like the other poster said, training will be mediocre to say the least. They will have some one working in the field give some training over the weekend typically or sometimes over internet in the evenings. They will probably give you some books and some cracked software and expect you to pick up.

Some agencies provide free accommodation and food too until you find a project. That means - they usually have 4 or 5 bedroom house and they put 10 to 12 people in there and take you to walmart over weekend and pay for your groceries.

If you are coming to USA on H1B visa, you HAVE to get paid all the time by the employer as per the minimum wage for that particular position in that area. These institutes quote that wage amount (55k to 65k per year) in your H1B application. But if you don't have a project, they will not pay you anything. Zilch. Nada. The moment your paycheck does not run for a month, you are technically out of status. It can affect your entry to US in future or your Green Card.

Also, like the earlier poster said, these institutes were making hay until 2008 first half. Right now, I know so many people in SAP Finance with real experience who are struggling for months to find a project. Same case with other technologies too.

rightly said coolguy...but things might be slightly different for Canadian Citizens as compared to someone going on H1B visa...the citizens come under TN visa...i contacted couple of institutes who were eager to train me based on my Canadian Citizenship because there would be hardly any work for them...but still I will think twice before joining these instituted and shedding 1000$....do you know any institute who dont take money upfront..?

according to me the best way to get training is to get employed with a company and then go from there...

It may be rather hard to get TN if all your educational qualifications are non North American.
You will require a recognized credentials evaluation.
Also, if your education is not aligned with the field you are going for job, it is hard to get TN (if not impossible).
I'm not sure whether the so-called training from some desi institute running out of a rented basement will carry any weight for the TN.

well the so called desi training institutes do prepare an offer letter based on the title that are eligible for TN visa...no issues for them..they know how to mould and manipulate the system..also I have a MS from New York State University...so no issues there too...only concern is the channel going through...not sure if the way adopted by taking help from these desi training centers is the right one or not..?

I don't know any companies off my head. The best place to start with is Sulekha and look for cities along the border. So what is different with TN? They don't have to be paid minimum standard wages for that particular job title?
