Hi friends,
Need suggestions and or inputs from all the house owners, In my backyard I have stone tiles, and I have all the unwanted plants growing in the cracks, which is forcing me to think on having it done with interlocking, but I also hear of these getting uneven over a period, needing to level it every now and the after a few years,
Suggestions on what to look for when getting quotes for interlocking and also feedback from those who have done it in their houses.
Also any recomendations on good and economical works
Thanks for your inputs as always.

I havent researched a lot on this, but someone once advised me to go for pressed concrete. No worries of plants growing in between and no levelling required. Slightly expensive though.

Any comments anyone? any disadvantages of pressed concrete other than higher price?

I got my interclocking done last summer. So far it's fine.

We debated between interlocking and concrete.

Concrete was working out cheaper and you don't have the problem about weeds growing inbetween, but my wife preferred the 'look' of interlocking. I have to admit interlocking certainly looks much better than concrete. The other issue with concrete is once it's there, it's there for life. With interlocking you can always remove it in the future, with a lot of effort. This could become a major point when selling the house. The contractor said he'd put a dye in the concrete so it does not look like plain cement and he'd put a stamp to give it some self design.

With interlocking over a period of time you'd have some bricks settle in more than others. Those may have to be lifted out and add some sand underneath to raise the level, which is not a big deal.

Now I can keep my patio furniture outside without having to ruin the grass, and offcourse less grass to mow.

Same here as well:) I must also agree interlocking looks much better and gives a classic look to your backyard. For us stamped concrete was becoming monotonous as many houses on my street have this. Add a round flower bed and couple of pillers on the interlocking . It looks great.

I have heard issue like concrete chipping off from the surface, cracks and cannot withstand salt if used for driveway purpose.

Concrete also has issues with water drain off I have been told.....this has implication for potential flooding...when it rains a lot or there is snow melting...

I have mixture of both. In back yard, this year, I did interlocking by myself and help from friends. It is 22X16. I used HPB and 20inch by 20 inch tile. Used black cloth to avoid weeds. HPB is good deterent to weeds and plants as water does not stick in between these stones.

On my front and sides of house, I got concrete done. That was done 3 years ago and it is still good...no cracks or chipping.
