Anybody has experience of installing solar panels on a house in India. I am looking for an initial cost of the system which can generate at least 2 kw power which can be used at night or in water heating system.
I have come to know that price of solar panels has been reduced to 50% in 2011 and there is a boom of generating electricity from solar energy so as take advantage of India’s 300 sunny days each year.
Contact TATA BP Solar in Bangalore. they install the exact stuff you are asking for India through their installers.

After doing more research, I have found that the prices are dropped significantly in the last 2 years.
A couple of years ago, 1 KW power generation used to cost about Rs. 350,000 and now it is about Rs. 200,000. Looks like more people are adopting this technology and bringing the price down as was the case in cell phone industry.
I hope in next year or so the price will become quite attractive.
Just to add to it, India is taking huge initiative to use solar energy as much as possible. With total 5 Peta watt of power potential, only Thar desert in Rajasthan has the potential to generate power equivalent to 1500 Bhakra dams.
Solar Power does have huge opportunity in India but unfortunately there is no company in India who manufacture solar panels at low cost (unless things have changed in last 2-4 years).
Tata BP is leader but there prices are very expensive. This sector is dependent on government subsidies so people who knows the ways to get these subsidies are making good money.
Chinese solar panels rules this industry and if you can import panel directly from China it will be much cheaper option (though check the duties as I don't remember it right now). If I am not wrong even Tata BP import panels from China. People who want to move back to India and want to do business in this field has good potential.
