Gold souq Deira should not be missed ..You are bound to be Gold bedazzled ..... For coins / bars any place should not be bad ... I think Burj Al Khalifa also dispenses gold coins / bars as souvenirs ...

Use cabs freely and at will .. you will save a lot of time at very reasonable prices .... Take a creek tour in a 1-2 hour cruise as well as do not forget to travel in the water taxi 'abra' ...Its just next to the Temple @ Bur Dubai .....

Ajanta , Chemmanur & Alukkas should be other gold shops where you can shop ..All the best ..... Must do s

Snow dunes ..
Jumeirah Beach
Malls - Dubai Mall esp
Meena Bazaar & surrounding streets ...
Cruise on the creek
Palm City & Atlantis -- tour through them in a cab.
Shaikh Zayyed Road ...

JRF, I am flying with other airlines. I am applying for the single entry visa as agent says they don't give multiple entry visa (or it is too tedious process, I guess) and advised me to take transit visa while coming back (I am staying only for around 36 hours while returing via Dubai).

Anybody have first hand information about transit visa for Dubai, UAE. I researched and it seems a company called 'Marhaba' provide tranist visa services. I have read different experience of different people on the web so looking for first hand experience. It seems from some of the comments on various forums that you need to book hotel also through them to get the transit visa. I don't want to book hotel through them.

Oh, man travelling to middle-east region is a real hassle due to visa issues.

I spoke with them too.

Which airline you're flying. If Emirates / Etihad, they could arrange some what cheaper. Also check if there is visa on arrival option available.

The visa regulations are relaxed, I don't know the timeline, call the UAE consulate..

I just called them and they say they don't know when new visa regulations will be implemeted. I am planning to go to Dubai in early May so not sure what to do. I will be entering twice to Dubai and multiple entry visa fees is $660 (Wow its really expensive).

Returned from Middle East trip. Here is my experience:

Canadian passport holders need visa for Dubai (and also Baharain). We had the tourist visa. Visited Burj Khalifa at 9.00 pm slot. I was a bit disappointed. After CN tower (view from glass floor) and Grand Canyon. It takes only 60 seconds to reach the 124th viewing deck. The 5 minute fountain show at the Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall is ok, nothing compared to Vegas. Got some gold, now it has fallen, but no regrets. Gold souk was costly as compared to the shop in Meena bazar. Stayed at Admiral Plaza hotel. Good one. Good for family. Very few whites since they need disco, booze, men/women.

Weather was god sent. It had rained heavily the day before. Temps were less than 30 for 2-3 days. Had a good time walking around in Meena bazar and Dubai mall.

MKBLR:
Hope you did not expose yourself to too much Gold.
Gold has fallen a lot and is expected to be in a Bear market.
Luckily I did not invest in Gold during the hey days.

Peace
