Dear CDs,
I am writing this on behalf of my son. My son has got 92%( PCM) marks Board of intermediate , Hyderabad., and TOEFL CBT 257 with essay writing 4.5.
He is interested in undergraduate Chemical engineering in one of the University in Ontario. I would be grateful if any one could give their views and suggestions . He is doubt of getting admission to this course because of his essay score 4.5
Regards

Hey,
Lookin at the marks, the marks are more than enough to get admission into any university in Ontario.
The Toefl score of 257 is good too..But the essay score of 4.5 is on the border line.
Many universities require a score of 5.0 or more..There are some that require 4.5 and above...To be on the safeside, u should atleast get a 5.0
I have friends who had scores of over 250 CBT and 4.5 on the essay and there were given conditional acceptance (which means u have to re-do TOEFL and get a better score or they will reject you)
The essay component is essential because it demonstrates your ability to write in style and with a few gramatical mistakes.
I would suggest that he give his TOEFL again and try to score atleast a 5.0 on the essay component.
Most of the Universities have posted TOEFL requirements on their websites.
It is always best to contact the University and find out what the requirements are for TOEFL scores. That should give u a good idea.
Good luck on that admission process.
Cheers!
Thank you Bandhan.
Could you give the rankings according to you , among the Universities of waterloo, Uni Toronto, Western ontario, Mc Master,Queens and U of ottawa.

Well, I attend The University of Western Ontario.
Western is an excellent university. I love Western. It has the best campus in canada...Best student residence...ranked 3rd in medical/doctoral category in canada....also offers one of the finest programs...Western has Richard IVEY school of business (best business school in canada)..Western is located in London, Ontario...A very beautiful city...The student life at western is one of the best you can ever find. This is not only from my experience, but every student ive spoken to. Before you accept admission into any university, one should not only look at acedemics. There are other factors that come into play. My friends chose Univ of Toronto as their school because of its reputation. They now regret their decision for various reasons.
Every university is famous for a specific program.
I have friends in most of the Uiversities in ontario.
From what ive heard, Univ of Toronto has an excellent reputation, but the professors are only interested in research and not teaching.
McMaster is good for engineering.
I have a friend at Waterloo doin Chem. Engineering. Waterloo by far is the best engineering school in Canada.
Queens comes next in the line after waterloo...And then Univ of Toronto.
1. Waterloo
2. Queens
3. Univ of Toronto
4. Western
5. McMaster
6. Ottawa
I agree with the above.
the marks in PCM are very impressive.
My brother had slightly less than that and although he didnt go for an engineering course, he got admission in 4 universities in Ontario, incl U ot and Waterloo in Physics and Maths. He chose U o toronto, Mississauga finally.
Of course me already being here cooridnated everything from here. Apllied using online applications. All he had to do was appear for toefl and Go and get the Visa (which took some time because of additional questions raised by CIC New Delhi).

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
Thank you Bandhan and Mercury 6.
