Hi Guys,
Here's a really good article which is worth read - about the systematic discrimation of South Asian immigrants here in Canada (Not that this is something new or never read before, but a new perspective nevertheless). Here's the link:
http://canadianethnicmedia.com/?p=262
The article seems to focus on alleged discrimination against visitors from Asiatic countries by noting that visa applications from the Asiatic countries need to be accompanied by additional documents that non-Asiatic countries don't need.
The additional documents need to be provided by Canadians/PR living in Canada. The article is therefore, indirectly, suggesting discrimination because you and I (who are Cdns/PR) are forced to submit more documents to bring our relatives to Canada.
Here's another perspective. The regulations and document requirements are slightly different for different countries depending on the real/perceived risks as determined by Canada.
For example, if you look at the visitor visa,
1. Indians need visa while Japanese don't, even though both are Asiatic countries according to the article.
2. Indians applying through a Cdn consulate in the US are subjected to lesser requirements than Indians applying from India (I know that from experience with my MIL who has applied from Detroit and Delhi).
