Your Q:"Application received on August 1st 2008"
Answer: Mail arrived in their office not when they open it
My question:
Does it mean that they opened my application for the first time but processing is yet to start? If yes, then will my application status be "on-line" from this point onwards?
Answer: This varies from person to person and most likely it will show online.
"Application process started on Jan 27th 2009"
My question:
Does this mean that verification of my application started at this date? If yes, then what would cic be doing for 5 months from first opening my application?
Answer: They mainly do back ground checks and some says certificate is printed-the bottom line, you just track your process approximate steps and expect what is coming next and when-kind of good to know do not worry what they are doing to it-My advise unless you are planing on committing a crime
"Application transferred to <local office> on March 31st 2009"
My question:
Does this mean there will be another round of processing done by the local office in the province where I reside? Is it true that the processing is always quick after this point?
Answer: Yes
Reason: The reason I ask is because I would like to leave Canada for some time (several months) and I am waiting on my application status to go on-line thinking that it will be easier for me to track once it is online.
Answer: If you have to leave go on now and continue to check your status online. You have long way to go. All the best
Please advise. Thanks in advance,

Hi bc2on,
Thanks for the info.
One question on your response is as follows.
I applied on Jan 19, 2009. I am told by cic that my application will be opened by mid June 2009. So, will they send an acknowledgement for receiving my application immediately after they open my application OR after they do the first round of processing (which according to this discussion thread takes around 3-4 months from the time they open the application)?
Thanks,
VD
Hi,
They send the acknowledgement as soon as they open the application and create a file number.
Then the processing starts after few months.

I have been told by CIC that my file was transferred "electronically" on March 16th, but has not been transferred yet "physically" (as of april 13th) to Mississauga office (due to the local office too swamped with applications, to accept any more from sydney).
Has anyone else had a similar experience, and know the timelag between the physical and electronic transfer of a file.
Since there has been no physical transfer yet, it does not show up on E-cas.
Thanks
