I am from India and I am planning to move to toronto very soon , I am NOT planning to sell anything on bus (which is misunderstood in earlier post)
I am just looking at small items/service business
I don't have car so my means of transport will be TTC
I want to start a small business by importing handicrafts from India and then sell the same here in Canada. If anyone could help me with their experiences
1) Will I need to acquire a BN (Business Number) The shipment is very small, costing not more than $500 CAD.
2) Will I have to pay any import duties or taxes and/or collect taxes
3) Will I need to register this business.
If anyone could throw some light or share their experiences.
There is great potential for quality items which can be imported from India and to be sold in Canada. Artifical Jewelery, Handmade handicraft items, Saris with handwork, Kurtis to name some. PM me if you need to discuss further.
Importing camercial items needs import / business no. (GST/PST) registrations as business & retailer. But $500 items can be brought as gift or declare as samples. Mostly there will be no duty on samples with this value but keep the invoice, in case they decide to put duty. Mostly duty will be around 18%.
