Hi Folks,
A Question to those who have been here for a while...
Did Canada change you? your thought..your attitudes..yourself? Are you the same person who left the shores of wherever you have been and now?
Do you think that is positive or negative on you..the person?
Any comments would be welcome...

Definitely, though I know that we are seldom the same person we were last year (irrespective of the place). I would pity myself if I was.
I must also say that from my perspective Canada has been a tough teacher. Back in India everything, I tried, was too easy for me . As was climbing to the top.So much so that at 21, I had 10 artists working under me. My background and upbringing opened quite a few doors there.
In Canada on the other hand things have taken a lot of time and effort on my part. I now know why my relative from Kerala took so much time to get used to the culture in Bombay and also to get accustomed to the way we worked in Bombay....especially when it comes to artistic sensibilities...the small things I took for granted when I was in India. It also validated my thoughts on things that are not given a very high priority in India...e.g: Social responsibility, dignity of labor, lesser divide between the haves-have nots, racism etc.
So all this(including stretches of poor/unemployment) has allowed me to indulge in self-reflection...and I think I am a more flexible and positive person for it. I would not trade these experiences in Canada and have no regrets.
p.s: this topic is the gist of a documentary I have in the works (as one of you know )

Thanks for your reply. I am working on something on the same topic too.

Almost all experiences change your outlook towards life. In my case, it certainly has, that too significantly. Although it may not be the same as some of you, I am sure that some of you can identify with my experience and thoughts.
It has been 12 years since I have been here and I completed some of my university education here as well. Most of my experiences have been positive and I do agree with some of you that not having a job or the right job does take a toll on one's self-worth and self-confidence. However, waiting does pay off in the end.
I have certainly become more flexible, analytical and more likely to understand other cultures and viewpoints. It does broaden your horizon and outlook - it is just a matter of realising it and perhaps taking advantage of these unique experiences.
