Chandresh, you dont need to be so cynical and sarcastic with your comments. Yes we do earn a tax free salary in dubai but we also have a lot of indirect taxes such an extra high rents, expensive education etc. And for your information, if I enquired about 500-600 $ for 15 days, it was only if there is a possibility. As new immigrants, we bank on forums such as these to get some insight from desis who have surely endured the same problems.

You need not get personal and insult any other desis. This is a public forum for healthy discussion and advise and not a battleground for your personal prejudices and anger.

So, think twice before posting the next time. Admins, please note.

Adamthroat:
Did you read my timeline. It was in 2002. We got an internet and computer in a week and what we first did was to search for jobs. We did not have the precense of mind to google TTC website and see what was their offering. Those times were crude. I also did not even know that there were food banks and libraries which were totally free. It took me till 2009 to even know that there was food bank.

I have 3 room mates. They never took the TTC for over 6 months. They would all be home, working at the gas station and cooking and eating at home. I was the only one to take a TTC, go to shopping malls, look at the white people , eat KFC, but grocery at Loblaws and bringing it home, searching for jobs at the boards in the shopping mall. I had an off and on labour job for the next 4 months. I used to work and just come home and sleep (as you are too tired with lifting and heavy mechanical work), but the pay was good. I got $ 8 an hour where as those times I would have got Rs 12,000 a month in bangalore or Rs 40,000 a month in the Gulf. Now the rates are $ 11 and I get an excess of a lakh a month in India. I was offered a job in Iraq for USD 9000 a month but due to visa problems / ISIS I could not go.

It takes some time for Desi's to adjust to the new environment !!!

Hope this helps.

I can summarize you what you need to do in 14 days in Canada as I have helped someone last month who came here for 10 days from Middle East to fulfill the PR formalities.

Before you start from Dubai, get someone’s mailing address because you need to give this address as you permanent mailing address at the arriving airport in Canada and Immigration Canada will mail your PR cards at that address. You also need to show the required proof of settlement funds at the arriving airport.

After landing, I will advise you to go to nearest office of Service Ontario (http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/) and apply for Social Insurance Number (called SIN). You need to carry your travel documents with Proof of Record of Landing to get the SIN.

The next step could be opening up a bank account and you will need the SIN and a mailing address.

You cannot get the apply for the Health card in first 14 days as you may need PR card, which will take around 3 months to arrive at your given address.

I will suggest you to get a cell phone and enjoy your stay in Toronto as vacation.

You can also pass the G1 Driver’s License exam in first 14 days but the actual license will be mailed to you in one month’s time.

You can go back after 14 days without PR card but when you want to come again to Canada, have to get temporary travel document from your local Canadian consulate office by providing the original proof of landing document. You can come over to Canada next year, pick your PR card from your known local person, apply for Health Card and go for G2 and G Driving Licenses.

Bring your old hardware and check the compatibility. You can buy any android based smart phone from 100 to 200 bucks if your old phone is not compatible. The one month economical phone plan would be 30 or 35 bucks for unlimited Canada wide calls + unlimited text + unlimited data. Check out the current offerings of Windmobile and Mobilicity.

Hi New Immigrant,
I don't see anything offensive in chandresh's post and don't see any reason why you are offended by that as well if that is not your intention. There are several and way too many instances where people particularly from middle east take advantage of Canadian system and this trend will keep going. I personally know many people who get the stamping and go back without making Canada their home in person. There is a reason why it is being said.

Also going by your post, getting the necessary paper work is a very simple thing and this is what majority of people do after coming here. There is nothing really complications here in getting the paper work and you can infact avoid these expenses.

As you mentioned this is a public forum for all healthy discussions and I see more personal prejudices and anger from you rather than from Chandresh.
