Atleast we have 2 defined group now:

Group 1 - convinced, it is not worth explaining 15% that 85% people are in good field jobs

Group 2 - convinced, it is not possible to convince 20% people that 80% are in labour jobs or Part Time employment (@ Timy's).

New immigrant can view themselves in either of the group before flying in to Canada. Once here, you are going to be on CD explaining your experience with expectation that waiting people listen to you but after couple of months, experience will teach you a lot my friend.

Canada is not a path of bed of roses it has thorns also in it, you have to remove thorns from your path by sheer determination, courage and planning or else you will be in great FRUSTRATION....

Going by that, Canada must be the same as life itself.

On other hand, it is also a land of opportunites. With the right skills and the right attitude, you can achieve just about anything.

What kind of a "Land of Opportunities"? For America its OK but for Canada, is a big question? Most of Senior level highly educated people are working odd jobs or on juniour level position is totally against what you said "Land of Opportunities.

Come out and accept the fact.

I disagree...

With the right education and skills(both hard & soft), I believe we can achieve whatever we want.

Comparing it with US is like comparing apples and oranges.
They differ heavily in economies/available geo resources/ population/policies, etc, etc...

Probably i am too harsh here, but US was like built on slavery.
and Canada has been built on immigration and humanity. If we want to compare these two, we have to understand their backgrounds and their fundamental differences.

Rather than saying that there are no opportunities here, I would say that opportunities differ? But they do exist... A lot of them...For sure they are not in scale with US...But are graspable.

What we need is :
a) a modified attitude,
b) willingness to change and
c) ability to adapt.

Just high education is not enough. You need to adapt.
Hindi mien bole tau "Junoon aur aatmavishvas chahiyhe"

And if these highly educated people do adapt, then they can start seeing these opportunites differently

Remember we are now naturalized citizens here. We have to skin this goat inside out... Think about the backlash against outsourcing that we see in US today. Tell me how are the US natives who lost their jobs to these outsourcing see their country today?(a land of opportunties?)

For sure, Work situations are not ideal... Who expects them to be?
But They keep changing...
In the 70s people who immigrated here did get the jobs as per their skills. Even in the late 90s during the IT boom, IT folks and even others were able to switch jobs as per their will.

Right now, its a different market for just about everyone. Educated people now need to stay more-so-ever in touch with ever changing market needs. We all have to adapt...FAST...Those who adapt when its time to succeed ...others dont...
Going to an university when ur in ur 30s and 40s is possible here. Do we have that luxury in India?

Thinking that university education is enough to get a job is a wrong attitute. We need continuing education to first get in speed with the changing work environments and even after to stay in the game.

I believe the means are there...we just need to use them...

Many new-comers who are required to do odd-jobs initially should never feel disheartened and they should stop doing the $*35/-.

You have lost the game once you have stopped believing in yourself...

Hopefully, I can pump in some motivation here :)

Assuming you were wanting to write the above in bold try using the square brackets ('[') instead of '<' and '>'.

Carry on.

A motivating post indeed bison. I do agree with almost everything (some I have to leave to not to agree so that the discussion keeps going on:D )

However, can you give a pointwise list of what needs to be done to adapt? Why I am requesting you to give a list is because putting in the manner you have, it is too general. However, if you put it in a point wise format, readers will be able to identify what they have done and what has been missing, which they should do.

In my opinion, listing down things will clarify a lot of things and your post or message will not only be meaningful, but helpful too. And if I were you, I would write down atleast 8-10 points on this subject so that a reader is better able to compare his situation/efforts with what you think is really required.
