It was very interesting to read this story, but what stands out was that he started his business in Gujarat and NOT in Tamilnadu, where he is from eventhough he has said that he will roll out in TN later, where similar IDLY's only joints are dime a dozen!, which starts from restaurants to road side carts.
It'll be quite interesting for people to learn that a Thali in a vegetarian restaurant like SB would cost you around Rs.750 in India. How many people can afford this thali ?.
This guy has come the hard way with education on his back. If you study the story of the owner of the Saravana in India you'll find that he had no education, but started as a grocery store owner and forward integrated with his restaurant. His chain is global and I don't think that he has ever gone to high school !.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
Need to applaud the guy. He started out in Gujarat competing against gujjus who are known for business.
Regarding the owner of Saravana, that was long back. Now things are different and there is more competition.
that is the main problem with us we don't know how to appreciate but we do know how to criticize.
we should be learning from his case. he is really very well educated he could have started with the big jobs or would have come abroad but he decided to do something for the people..........so we should be appreciating him.
