I read in today's toronto star this one:
Quote:
Among the measures likely to come out of the meeting will be a commitment by federal and provincial governments to streamline regulations that bar immigrants from obtaining professional credentials and to improve efforts to attract skilled immigrants to Canada.
Chrétien is expected to say Canada must continue to be the destination of choice for talented immigrants. Also, there will likely be a pledge to provide billions of dollars for grants and loans for education and skills training over the next decade.
They don't need to think much to do this. They can simply ask immigratns how they feel about the system here and they will give them all sorts of solution.
My solution is - along with immigrantion fees they should take fees for professional affilation program. The fees will include everything and if the person needs any training it must also be covered..
This will match with the philosophy they are applying while giving Visa. If they are short of few mechanical engineers and call you because of it, then they must use as mechanical engineer and not as a labourer!

They certainly will get some good suggestions and at the same time ... hell lots of criticism on the 'system'.
But if they start taking fees for affiliation program and training ... how many of us would be ready to pay that amount ... (willingly) ??? Don't forget that, people are not happy (& Willing - but they have to) to pay $50 for PR Cards ...

I agree with you Maharaj. But I think people will pay some amount of money if they get proper recognition of their degree and if it is helping them in getting job.
