Hi all,
In light of the poll about guys learning to cook in Canada, I just thought I'd build upon it.
To simplify cooking and to rush things we use President's Choice ready made sauces like the butter sauce, korma sauce, tikka masala sauce. It is not the best thing going but it is a pretty damn good substitute.
The other evening we had guests over and made butter paneer using the ready made sauce and everybody wowed it and were stunned when we told them it was from the ready made PC sauce.
Also PC has some ready made- like just pop into the micro- stuff as well- butter chicken, chicken biryani, mutton korma etc... Not bad.
We also buy some Indian imports in cans and packets of tadka daal, pav bhaji material, mixed sabzi etc.
Would anybody like to share their thoughts on PC and the other stuff? We many a time also spruce it up by adding extra chillies, ginger, onions, cream and the like.
Also the Gits mixes for dosa and kulfi and all. Good time savers.
90% of all PC products I've tried are great - have to admit I've not tried their Indian sauces or ready made meals but I've tried other sauces (Kobi, Thai Penang, Jerk, etc.) and they are all really good. Recently I tried their Thai Sweet and Spicy dipping sauce and it is really yummy, great with spring rolls or pakoras.
On those occasions I need to use an ready made Indian sauce, I stick to Pataks because it's what I know from back home (UK). Their Tandoori paste is awesome...Sharwoods is also good I've heard.
As for guys cooking, I'm sure alot of you out there do, but my dear hubby seldom enters the kitchen. He does try bless him, and those few dishes he does make are great, like chicken chilli, shrimp jalfrezi and he makes a killer cup of coffee!

I am a regular eater of PC No Name brand items excluding sauces and as a south Indian donot like them very much. I have not tried their recent Indian flavoured items due to the high cost but try to buy items put on sale.
Tecently they had some rice/chicken microwaveable item + meatballs / bacon puffs ($1 a sale items) which were not that good. This rice/ chicken item has to be microwaved for 6 mins. which is too high.
For cheap food items (we south indians eat large quantity of food), I try takeout subzi's at Rajdhani (Islington/Albion) and then cook rice and mix and eat or we get and eat cheap take out biriyani's (available mostly in Mississauga).
