Man Accused of Forcing Miscarriage

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) - Darshana Patel told authorities she was suspicious as she watched her boyfriend stir a smoothie at an ice cream store. When he offered it to her, she noticed powder on the cup's rim, and the pregnant woman feigned illness and didn't drink it.
Manishkumar M. Patel sits with his attorney, Thomas Zoesch during his initial court appearance at the Outagamie County Justice Center in Appleton, Wis. Patel is accused of several serious offenses including the attempted first degree intentional homicide of an unborn child.( AP)
According to a criminal complaint, the woman says she sent the powder to a laboratory and it turned out to be mifepristone, the abortion pill also known as RU-486.
The test results came too late: She had already suffered two miscarriages in less than a year.
On Thursday, Manishkumar M. Patel, 34, of Appleton, was accused of slipping the drug to the woman without her knowledge. He was charged with seven felonies and two misdemeanors, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child, stalking, burglary and two counts of violating a restraining order. The nine charges carry a maximum penalty of 99 1/2 years in prison and a $92,000 fine.

I have minute sympathy for this woman. From reading the article it seems like she consented to having an affair with someone who is already married. She got herself pregnant THREE times by this guy who has no intention of leaving his wife and she's happy because he cooked for her???? low self esteem.
Many women/girls get pregnant as a way of trying to maintain a relationship with someone.
Personally rather than charging him.................. she should thank him for sparing their future children from a life without a father..without a stable home and from the messy triangle her life is. She needs to get involved with a NORMAL and available guy!
If you also look at the picture ..the guy looks very scary.

I Agree with Morning Rain. She's not at all the victim in this case.
While the Guy is on trial, I think that she should also be punished for she gets her self into these situations and then has taken the life of 3 children!
As for the guy, if i was his wife, i'd slap him with a divorce and get him to pay allimony and child support ... low life losers !

A legal status of 'married' doesn't necessarily means the guy was still married. He might have been 'separated'
Your arguments hold good if he was 'married and still looking'
What about having multiple partners before marriage? Marriage has lost its traditional meaning in North America .
I guess every one has their own set of morals. For some people sex before marriage is ok as long as its with one partner. For some it is immoral.

Yes times have changed. Don’t hang on to the past. Today’s young generation is different even in India. We Desis tend to look towards west . Look at the today’s Hindi movies.
Crime is a Crime. Killing unborn child is a crime and she is the victim. Why do men think their women is their personal property? Everybody has their own right as how they want to live their life and if they can’t be in steady relationship, I guess they should not get married.

It is not a question of morals. Your right that the media can take a separated and make it into 'married' to cause sensationalism. However why would he want his girlfriend to miscarry/abort unless he has something to hide from someone? Or he' doesnt want to get stuck paying child support but then he should have thought about that before (both of them should have)
Really - its not the marriage/cheating thing that makes me shudder..its that this guy is dangerous!!
