Finally i have I,ve got my passports with the Visa on along with the COPR papers. Hurray me!:)

I need to clarify some thing regarding the proof of funds that i need to show on landing.

I have been told that i have to show at least 10,000$ for me and my family {3 members}, and i am staying for just six weeks, then back home then back to canada in four month, i am willing to bring around 3,000$ for the six weeks,,so will that be a problem to show the 3000$ only? can the officer really decline me for that reason even if i tell them the story of staying for a short time and come back later? plz advice me.

regards.

Why?

Because, you don't tell the Immigration Officer at the port of entry "That you are here for only six weeks" or for only a short time. They will send you back on the next available flight.

Now your $3000.00 that you are bringing is sufficient to get your self started. Tell him you just carry what you are comfortable with.

For the balance of the requirements, show him the proof of funds that you had when you applied for Immigration into Canada. But bring the Bank Balances,
and list of assets etc., with proof there of.

Please read through this.

Please tell the Officer that you are moving into Canada Permanently and make a good life for yourself and the Family.

He will stamp your Passports and will let you in. Then you apply for your PR card.

Now you have a "Free Pass" to enter and leave Canada any time. Isn't that great!
No body need to know where you go and what you do. Right?

Now isn't that nice to drop in at Canadian Desi and ask for help and advice?

This sure will help you.

Hello

You have to bring whatever you are required to bring in. Period. You CANNOT show bank statements from India (assuming the OP is from India) to show proof of funds when entering Canada. Freddie where did you read this info you have posted below. Go through this link and is very self explanatory.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp

If you bring in only $3000 how are you going to satisfy the immigration officer that you can live through the initial days. And if the intention is to stay why not bring in what is required at least the minimum. So by bringing in $3000 you are in fact raising a doubt that the intention is to return after the initial landing.

To the OP - the question you have asked has been discussed a million times before and it would be good if you search first before posting. This website is very lenient with dup posts but on some other forums you can be banned for dup posts.

Secondly along with the passports you must have also received a letter from CIC about the proof of funds. So get the amount required as per the letter and be worry free. Remember the immigration officer has a right to refuse you admission if you do not have sufficient funds to establish yourself in Canada. Now, you do not want to come all the way only to be sent back!

It is worth reading.

""You will need to provide proof of your funds to the Canadian visa office in your home country when you submit your application for immigration.""

""How much money should you bring?
Find out how much it costs to live where you are planning to settle in Canada.
Bring as much money as possible to make moving and finding a home in Canada easier.""

""Disclosure of funds

If you are carrying more than C$10,000, tell a Canadian official when you arrive in Canada. If you do not tell an official, you may be fined or put in prison. These funds could be in the form of:

* cash
* securities in bearer form (for example, stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills) or
* negotiable instruments in bearer form (for example, bankers’ drafts, cheques, travellers’ cheques or money orders)."" .......

AND it is my guide line: Carry a sum that you are comfortable with. Do not exceed a sum of Canadian Dollars 9,999.00. If you do then, your name and Passport number etc., get lodged into FINTRAC data base. What does it mean? Who cares, I don't want to be any one's data base. PERIOD.

Thank you for slowing me down.

I need a break.

Freddie.

Ive read elsewhere (maybe on this forum ) that Immigration Officers at the Airport are instructed NOT TO DECLINE immigrants for not bringing enough money . You might want to research this further .

My friends nephew came here and did not bring the amount required. He was allowed to get in but was given three days to show the amount in his bank account. Luckily my friend was able to get him an account and also deposit over 10K and they showed that to the immigration official. Now let us say the OP gets into such a situation, does he have any one to help him out? It is call one has to take. My point is simple. If you taken pains to get your PR visa what is stopping you to get the funds. Why be careless about this.

And hey!!! If you manage to bring 3K and are allowed to get in, do not forget to update this thread.

I crossed the border to get my passport stamped for PR and i did shown only a print out from ATM machine of TD bank and that was enough. it depends on luck and the officer. and i have a friend, she did was since she doesnt have enough funds, she deposit a cheque from a friend on her bank acct and request a copy of the statement and then make a stop payment for the cheque as there was no fund in her friend acct, but it is risky i dont advice anyone to do that.

That girl was so lucky she applied for PR as single and within a year she got her immigration and we have to wait for 3 yrs. it depends again on luck
