Hi All,

We are planning to go to India for around one and a half months. I am trying to compile a list of things to do before leaving our house for such a long period. Please add to it from your experience for everybody's benefit.

-Discontinue newspaper
-Redirect or put stop on your mail
-Put 'No Flyers' on the door or ask your relative/friend/neighbour to keep clearing flyers from your doorstep
-May be give one set of keys to your trusting relative/friend/neighbour to check your home/basement for any problem (I think its required by insurance companies that somebody checks your house from inside and outside every 48 hours)
-Tell your insurance/security alarm companies that you are going away
-Turn down your heating to 15/16 degrees celsius
-Turn down your water heater to vacation setting
-Unplug electrical appliances like toaster/microwave/cooking range etc.
-Shut down water to outside (lawn) taps
-Get recommended vaccinations for yourself and children
-Put important documents/jewellery etc. in locker or give them to your trusting relative/friend/neighbour
-Ask your relative/friend/neighbour to mow your lawn once in a while

Anything else?

In many latest cars, disconnecting battery will cause some issues like having to put in security key to the GPS system , start etc.

Utility payments -> enrol in PAD to avoid missing payments.

Put phone/cell/net connection on hold.
