Coolgirl,
I am assuming that face value is not entirely your mortgage! Looks like RBC did your needs analysis to come up with this number.
First thing first. Mortgage insurance is nothing but life insurance. Basically mortgage amount is added to your liability.
To protect yourself, you should always take term insurance for the mortgage amount.
Eventually you will pay off your mortgage and will not need any insurance for that amount.
Even for rest of the amount I recommend term insurance
Permanent insurance is not for all. I can discuss more on that if needed.
That will be technical discussion. In short permanent insurance is good for estate planning, if you have someone dependent on you and is disabled, if you want to really really leave some additional money for your dependents etc
Just realized you may be getting a discount from RBC because of Auto and home insurance. It is the lowest at this time no doubt. but what happens if you switch you home and Auto insurance?
In this case BMO comes to be lowest as of today.
May be it is worth asking the rates if you do not have Auto or home insurance with them. You do not want to change life insurance everytime you change Auto and home insurance.

Pls check your PM
