Hi All CD members, Wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year.

I was going through different sites and apparently there are a few kind of insurances usually available in Canada:

1. Term Insurance
2. Whole life Insurance
3. Universal Life Insurance
4. Disability Insurance
5. Critical illness Insurance
6. Long term care Insurance
7. Travel medical care Insurance
8. Health and Dental Insurance

Item 3, 7 can be excluded by virtue of its type. My question is is there any insurance policy which covers the combination of part of those items and if, which policy the avrerage Desis usually opt for?

I understand that item 4 may be provided by the employer and no insurance covers HIV patient if not contracted through occupational hazards. If I am covered with Term Insurance and become permanently disabled due to accident does it renders any benefit or you need separate policy?

How do you pay for prescription drugs and critical illness if any, does it call for separate policy if not covered by employer?

I would appreciate if someone patiently clarify these points!

CHEERS for 2005:cheers:

You need long-term disability insurance - item 4 in your case.
Usually this insurance is provided through the employer, but you can get your own insurance as well.

The extended health benefits are usually provided by the employer that covers prescription drugs.
If the employer does not provide, you can get your own insurance.

there are other life ins. threads .. search my other posts .. search \"enterpreneur\" ..
By the way.. I found a good site for life ins. http://www.term4sale.com..." rel="nofollow">LINK sometime it needs to be reloaded .. may be for heavy traffic on site. u can compare policies.
2. Universal life is needed if u want Life companies to do your investments for u and u want to be tied down for life with one company for your life cover and investment.
There r LOTS of investment ways here.
3. disability is already answered above by somone .. these r costly .. need lots of efforts to get something from cos. in case of an accidents.
4. critical illness.. decide depending on your own health and heredity factors
