Dear CD's,
One ladies that I know in Kitchener is looking for a job. She is residing in the Huron area now and they have been in Canada for almost 9 years.
The ladies first language is not English and hence she is not very well versed in English, though she can manage English. She is also a vegetarian and hence she canot work in Timmies, MCD etc..
She has been telling me that she has been unable to find a job for a very long time. It seems that she recently gave an interview at Staples but she said that she was not able to answer their questions properly in English and hence she was rejected.
Any kitchener residents know any kind of job for her? Your replies will be highly appriciated.
Her Hubby is a Uber driver and hence he can drop and pick her up even if she works in remote locations.
Please help,
Murali

TK,
You have lived in Canada and in the K-W region. You have good knowledge and understanding of the type of jobs available in that region. Based on what you mentioned, I understand that for this lady, a front office type (customer facing) job is out of question and so is a job at a fast food joint. If you go by process of elimination, what type of job do you think she'll be eligible for?
PS: I know you left Canada a while ago, but in terms of the types (categories) of job, nothing much has changed.
If you provide the types of job, may be members would be able to assist.

Hope this helps a little.
There are a few select jobs there in K-W-C area. The pay is very low and the jobs are demanding and laborious, repetitive and tiring. A few of them want all kinds of qualifications and clearances. Since they have to start from the bottoms up, they may as well get deep into it and do it all correctly and Right.
You will know when you read into the employer's requirements. Here they are. This is just a cross section of the jobs that are available. They will have to jump into one and gain a little experience first and keep plugging away. If the person is healthy and loves hard work, then, ask her to jump in. It will be good to gain a little experience. The salary if she works 160+ hours a month will just amount to under $2000. Nice chunk of savings though. It mighht open up other avenues later on. Who knows!
One or two of the jobs are just to walk behind a floor cleaner and guide it. See if she can land one. Give her a walk man with a language course to listen while the machine does the work. Learn While you Earn.

All of these are from their local KIJIJI
Has she tried WELFARE ? She can show she is a single mom or a divorcee and collect welfare checks . All this is on paper only, in real life they will be still married.
Is Uber the only thing the husband does ? Or does he have a real job on the side ?
Uber income is not much these days after tax, Uber commission, gas, car insurance, car maintenance, repairs, depreciation of car due to driving.
Now car insurance companies expect commercial insurance not private personal insurance if you drive for Uber, that insurance is very high . If you get into an accident your personal private car insurance won't cover you if you drive for Uber.

Dear all :
Thanks for your responses.
I was in the KW area during the recession of 2009 and hence I know first hand what the situation is like.
The lady is not interested in Welfare. In fact this lady was the first one to tell me that there are food banks in Canada and from that day only I have been a great probagator of Food banks for food. They are proud Indians from a high community and they donot want to do hanky panky stuff. Uber bring unpredictable return and the gents is doing some university courses as well in his spare time and Uber is the only job that he holds on to.
Based on SS queries, I have zeroed on to the following jobs suitable for her
1. Security.
2. Indian store -Masala packing or Front office.
3. Small assembly of parts - Vehicles, spare parts, electronics etc..
4. Ware house jobs,
5. Night time store replenishing.
When RIM/ Blackberry was active, there were unlimited jobs. Now there are none.
Asking our Desi friends in KW area if they can get a job for the lady (assured) for the 5 broad based catagory of jobs mentioned above. Any leads will also be welcomed.

Agree with TK. With RIM/Blackberry pretty much closed now, the housing market stalled. There are hunderds of open house lots unsold at VISTA HILLS, west of waterloo.
A lot of startups did come after Blackberry's downfall but for those with strong technology background. Most of RIM people who worked in manufacturing could not find similar jobs.
For your friend, i suggest she work in Desi restaurant, Desi Kitchen as helper to start with.
recently quite a few new indian restaurants came up. they always need back help in kitchen.
