We are off to Montreal for the long weekend. Unfortunately, the time of leaving Toronto is Friday, 4 pm. What can be expected on the dreaded 401 East (I have never used it during rush hour)? Is there a better route suggested? We are leaving from Markham.

You are good as you are leaving from Markham. You saved yourself from major rush area. There is only route through 401E. You could find patches of slows but not a headache.

I would say try to leave by 2:00 pm cause lot of ppl are planning long week-end either to Montreal or Ottawa so traffic will be mess in the evening.

Why don’t you start driving early in the morning around 4:00 am? U drive at evening and reach at night ( u might be so tired so most probably u do is just rest)
