Looking for companion for my parents planning to com from AMD/BOM to Toronto via NEWARK US in United airline

Do they have to do immigration at both place / baggage pickup at Newark and Yyz ?
If any one have experiences to come Toronto via us city

Yes, they have to clear immigration, pick up the bags and clear customs at Newark. If they are citizens of a country that require a visa, they would also need a valid stamped visa to enter the US airport. They will then re-check the bags in and go through security check for boarding the YYZ flight.

They will also need to clear Cdn immigration and customs upon arrival into YYZ.

Picking up bags and dropping is not that difficult, as immediately after customs and immigration there are counters for each airlines for transit passengers.

Make sure they don't exit the airport with luggage.

If they purchase any liquids at duty free, they will need to be stowed into check in bags at Newark as the liquids will not be allowed on carry on when passing through Newark security check.
