Hi ,
My parents are travelling from India for the first time . I asked travel agent to include " wheel chair " facility .
Let me know any one's parents used this facility , how was the experience? Does it help them to travel without companion ?

In my case parents are travelling from ..

Vadodara -- Mumbai ---- Brussels --- Toronto --- Fort Mcmurray .

I am worried about terminal transfer in Mumbai & Immigration in Toronto & then collect the luggage and again check in to travel for fort mcmurray .

My parents travelling on 8th june by jet airways flight to Brussels & by air Canada to Toronto . Let me know any one travelling on same flight , it will be great help .

Traveling by wheel chair should be very helpful - it may be a wait or you may have to remind the staff if needed but in the end , seniors will have a trouble free navigation ..

London can be a painful experience because of the size of the operations but Brusels should be good ... At origin (Baroda) , use a porter and ask him where the wheel chair will come ... While changing flights , ask the staff before exiting where the wheel chair will arrive .... At destination (Mc Murray) again ask staff before getting off the aircraft where the wheel chair will arrive ..Once it does he will take you through the channels - take a porter ($14/-) and ask him to get you in the assistance lane at the airport ... Before paying him , borrow the porter's phone or give him the number to call (yours) and he can advise the location.

Since baggage out will be in Toronto and then baggage in as well ... you may have to hire the porter twice once in Toronto and then again @ Fort Mc Murray ... But always ask the wheel chair person and he will guide you. You can tip them $5/- - $10/- as they help your parents through all the channels ..

Thanks Fido & Blue Peafowl ,
Appreciated .
My worry is to change terminal in Mumbai ( domestic to international ) as they have to catch the bus and bus will drop them at any gate of int. airport but I think it won't be problem for them as they can communicate in hindi . Idea to hire porter in Toronto will be good & that way they can communicate with me by porter's phone and I can guide them . Fort Mcmurray - no problem I can go up to luggage belt .

Appreciate if other CDs share their parent's travelling experience ...

I checked my parent's ticket and found that they have to change terminal at Toronto from terminal 1 to terminal 3 . Let me know how to do that ? If they hire porter will he able to guide them up to terminal 3 ? Once they collect luggage , where they have to submit luggage on transit ? on terminal 1 or terminal 3?

there is a LINK train ..its a small automated monorail train just like a small subway train ..that links T1 to T3 . Its a FREE train , just takes 2-3 minutes from
T1 to T3.

The train is automated with NO driver and arrives every 5 mins or so.

There are signs everywhere pointing to the location of the train. Lot of information centres where you can ask questions too.

Lot of desis working at Toronto airport and lot of desi passengers too..so even if they just speak Hindi it won't be an issue.
