Hi CD team and members,
My son who will be completing his Grade 12th from Alberta. He would like to join Mechanical Engineering program in UBC or any good University in ONT,BC or AB.
His first priority is UBC , U of T, U of Waterloo.
Could you please help me to find list of good university and what are the chances of getting admission as his marks are HIGH 70 .
Please advise where to apply.
Thank you in advance
He has sufficient marks to get an entry anywhere. Having said that, he should have done his spade work in the year 2012 and applied to all of the universities in the year 2013. Now in 2014, he will be competing against all of the entrants and from all over the whole world!! Still he will make it into BC for sure. U of T and Waterloo are are living in their glory days. You will not miss much if he does not make it into their fold.
But the question is WHY Mechanical Engineering?? Any reason? Of course the choice is his to make and for you to support or approve. If it is automation of Oil production, then sure go for it. Alberta is full of it. You are close by too. Alternately go for POWER Engineering, they will survive for the next 100 years.

High 70 is not really that good of grades to get entry anywhere. In Calgary and Edmonton, you need to be certainly in the very high 80s or past 90s to get into engineering. I believe it is the same with UofT, UofW or UBC.
Still there is some time. Ask your son to improve the grades and also there is Alberta provincial exam as well to catch up.

He has a lot of scope to improve his marks and the standing.
Here is an article from MACLEANS for the previous year. You can surely see the average scores moving upwards and what I read were the remarks and that made me cringe. But, I surely like to encoutage up and coming and also budding students. And of course there is a place for this candidate also. I am sure he will make it too.
GOOD LUCK to you young man.
