A story in the Economic Times ...“Indians overseas upset over government proposal to scrap PIO & OCI cards."
The Indian government is all set to create a new status for non resident Indians (NRIs) abolishing the current Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and creating a new ‘Overseas Indian Card’. The aim probably is to have one status for NRIs instead of the two prevailing.

lol... Someone else must also make money. Hence, another round of tenders for these cards, lobbying (read 'corruption'), and the eventual frustration of a 'mango' NRI. Yet again <sigh>.
Reminds me of something similar. It used to be only 'Ration Card' that was the status and your identity document. Then they devised 'Voter Idetity Card' that would supposed to have been one and all for the lifetime. What followed was 'PAN Card', and then lately 'Aadhar Card'. Shows, everyone has to have an equal opportunity to make money by contracting out the development, manufacturing, tendering, and distribution of these so called identity documents. Why an NRI should be spared then. Even though they left the country, they should take the suffering with themselves.
Hide but you can't run from Indian Bureaucracy and Babudom.
Man! India never cease to surprise me.
Something really went bad in 1947 with respect to the initial policy making on a clean slate, which carried on to the present day.
May God Bless India; and give us strength to deal with the foreign depute Babus.
