Hello AshwaniG, Could you please help me and tell me what exactly it is? I do not have a clue regarding OIC or ... who needs it?
We are Canadian citiznes now and kids are born here. do they need this?
Hi !
All landed immigrants who became canadian citizen including their kids ( born here or otherwise ) are entitled to apply for Dual citizenship ( sort of dual ) .
If you wanna travel India and is not willing to apply for visa everytime Indian govt gives you two options :
1. PIO ( Person of Indian Origin ) : A sticker is valid for 15 yrs to stay in India and visit India w/o visas . registration is required if stay exceeds 180 days .
2. OCI ( overseas Citizen Of India ) : This sticker has no expiry . One can visit India w/o visa and can stay for any time period w/o having any registration formalities ..
I hope it helps . If you need more info you can visit

P.S: This status can become really handy especially when you have to fly in emergency ..I strongly suggest you to apply one if you have someone left in India whom you might have to visit for any given reasons ..

My kids have OCI. Its a one time deal, I would suggest to go for it. As I understand, if someone on OCI stays in India for 2 yrs, they are eligible to apply for Indian passport. Someone can clarify this.

Coolcola is right. There is NO dual citizenship as far as India is concerned. Of course, foreign citizens cannot get Indian passport.
