Very vaugue information.
What sort of renovation? Interior or the structure?
Will it require the trusses to be strengthened, the ashphalt roof to be replaced etc...?
As said before, go with reference (personal) and avoid desi's.

I want to get the following done:

1.Complete renovation of Basement ( to do some water proofing and have a floor that is more warmer and redesign the interiors)
2.To renovate kitchen design completely with open concept
3. To add one additional room toward backyard and a washroom at main floor
4. To change the old hardwood floor with new one
5. Total painting.

I have no plan to move to a different home instead of renovating the old one.

Gurram:
If you need to add an additional room with washroom, you will need a permit and it becomes part of Architecture. A design build contractor can get you this permit. If you google, you can find some good and cheap guys. I doubt if any desi's can give reference as it is a specialized task that no desi would have done.
This same guys (design and build) will have to do water proofing as this is a specialized job. The guys who do real houses (actually a number of sub contractors) can do the job for you.

The rest mentioned are available dime to a dozen. Get a good reference and give it.

So you will have to divide the package into two.

1. Design build contractor who will design an additional room, get municipal approval and build it. He will also water proof your basement and insulate your walls (mostly wood framing and glass wool insulation).
2. All other work, which can be done by people who are available dime to a dozen.

fell free to revert if you have any further questions.

What we do when we want to have any work done - land in the nearest Home Depot. They usually have tie-ups with contractors. These contractors will come to your house and give you a free quote and timeline. Get all details from them - materials they will use - extras to account for - what can go wrong etc.
Next - check on home stars - again get someone to come and give you a free quote. Compare and use your previous knowledge to negotiate.
Then - when you do finalize with any contractor (reference or otherwise) - you will have a very good idea what you are looking for etc.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

One more addition to what Geetha says (btw, I donot agree with Geetha's statement as bad apples abound in Canada and the best way to weed them off is to get trusted references), is to see if they are BBB certified. As my friend SS used to say, being BBB certified eliminates a lot of scope for bad work, poor work ethics etc...
